Automotive Case study
FG Barnes requested a full refurbishment of its existing Guildford automotive dealership, which included stripping the building back to its portal frame structure in order to rebuild the space into a new shared car dealership space featuring two individual showrooms.
We undertook these construction works over a period of 25 weeks, including the addition of solar panels on the roof and a safe access system. We replaced the existing asbestos roof, cladding and showroom perimeter glazing with new structural steelwork, which was extended in order to lift the roof to allow a new mezzanine floor to be installed which provided a new first floor area.
Once the building was secure and watertight, contractors carried out an extensive internal fit-out which comprised plumbing, full heating and ventilation systems, lighting, electrical services and office glazing. New stud partitioning walls and ceilings were also installed, along with ceramic and soft floor coverings.
To ensure the new space provided accessibility to all, we also fitted a DDA public access lift.
As part of the refurbishment works, we formed new staff areas in order to provide a turnkey solution, including new office and meeting room spaces, canteen facilities and WCs. Storage areas for parts were created by our team on both the ground and first floors, made easily accessible by a goods lift.
The dealership’s staff worked from temporary external buildings while we carried out these works in order to ensure sales and service operations remained fully functional throughout.
